Plot

The final episode of season two, appropriately titled Cliffhanger, featured the Lockes and Doge engaged in a “ferocious fight,” while Bode was faced with an unexpected visitor.

Frederick Gideon will now be the top baddy going into season 3. Dodge may have been vanquished. Frederick is The Black Door’s most powerful demon and an echo of a possessed revolutionary war soldier. It’s interesting to note that the show’s plot now mostly exists independently of the comic books.

In its Geeked 2022 preview, Netflix gave a broad synopsis of the third season:

While a new threat—the most dangerous one yet—looms in Matheson with his own ambitions for the keys. The Locke family discovers more magic in Keyhouse.

A coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unbreakable ties that define family, Locke & Key is the work of Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House).

Locke And Key Season 3 Production

Before season 2 was even made available on Netflix, season 3 was already in production.

It was always intended to have a third season, according to Carlton Cuse, who told Collider that “We had actually already written a large amount of Season 3 before we even started filming Season 2.”

Filming for Locke & Key season 3 started in early May 2021, as we previously reported. Then, filming carried on through the summer and autumn.

The Canadian Directors Guide stated that the shooting would end on September 3, 2021. On September 15, Darby Stanchfield wrote on Facebook that it was the final day of filming, meaning that everything will be finished by September 16. Late October, according to Joe Hill, is when filming will be finished.

Locke and Key Previous Season Success

The show racked over 143.04 million hours of global Netflix viewing in its first four weeks. For contrast, that is around a quarter of the 427.44 million hours that Stranger Things season 2 racked up in a same time frame.

Locke & Key S2 and Cowboy Bebop both debuted around the same time, although Cowboy Bebop only received 73.84 million hours of viewing in the first three weeks before it was cancelled. In week 3, Locke & Key had 124.27 million viewers.

The series dropped out of the top 10 English shows after five weeks, according to the Netflix top 10 site. Locke & Key most certainly fell below 10 million hours watched for that week as number 10 on what would have been week six was 10.56 million.
