Stephen Colbert is the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, an American late-night news and political satire talk show, which debuted on September 8, 2015.

It is the second instalment of CBS’ Late Show franchise, which is produced by Spartina Productions and CBS Studios.

Like its rival Jimmy Kimmel Live, this programme is recorded at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City and broadcasts live to tape in the majority of U.S. markets every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT. as well as Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.

After current presenter David Letterman revealed his plan to leave earlier in the month, Colbert was named the new host in April 2014.

Colbert had previously presented Comedy Central’s news satire The Colbert Report, where he depicted himself as a parody of conservative pundits.

As a result, the series has placed a greater emphasis on addressing and parodying current events, particularly those related to American politics. Jon Stewart, who formerly helmed The Colbert Report’s parent series The Daily Show, joined as an executive producer on The Late Show along with others of Colbert’s employees.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been the #1 late-night show in the US for the last four seasons as of the end of the 2019–2020 season. It has surpassed The Tonight Show in key demographic viewership since 2019.

Jon Batiste leaving The Late Show

Jon Batiste’s departure from The Late Show as bandleader, starting immediately, was announced by Stephen Colbert on Thursday, causing a significant change on the show.

“Observers with keen eyes might have observed that Jon hasn’t visited this summer. I have some news, though: Jon has made the decision to stop doing the show, Colbert stated.

“However, it’s for the best of reasons, among them continuing to spread his art throughout the world. We wanted to send him out in style, but Jon isn’t in town. I’m hoping he’s recording his upcoming album, which I hope will be titled “More Grammys Please.”

The presenter said, “We’ve been so fortunate to have a front row seat to Jon’s great skill for the past seven years. Will we miss his being here?

‘Yeah! But Jon, we’re delighted for you, and I can’t wait to welcome you back as a guest with your subsequent big single.

When The Late Show returns for Season 8 on Tuesday, Sept. 6, Louis Cato, a mainstay of the Stay Human cast, will take over as bandleader permanently, and Stay Human will then become The Late Show Band.

He will be joined by longstanding house band members Louis Fouché, Jon Lampley, Endea Owens, and Nêgah Santos, as well as Joe Saylor, who has been a part of the event since its inception in 2015.

Colbert stated, “Louis has done a wonderful job this summer. He’s a musical genius, but he won’t admit it since he’s so modest. He can play pretty much any instrument there. He can learn to play Mozart on a shoehorn in an afternoon.

“Working on this concert with some of the most talented musicians and artists I know has been one of the great pleasures of my life,” continued Cato.

I’ve spent the last seven years observing and learning from both Jon and Stephen, so I’m sincerely eager to carry on the history of excellence they’ve started.

Over the past couple of years, Batiste’s star has been slowly rising. Along with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, he co-wrote the music for Pixar’s Soul in 2020, for which he won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and a BAFTA Film Award.

In 2022, he won four more Grammys, including Album of the Year and Best Music Video for “We Are” and “Freedom.”

Thanks to Stephen Colbert, Batiste acknowledged his resignation from the Late Show late on Friday.

Why was The Late Show off and when it returns

Last Monday marked the official start of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert following its summer sabbatical. But what can viewers of late-night television anticipate from CBS tonight?

When Stephen Colbert debuted the new season of The Late Show last Tuesday, he immediately addressed the Mar-a-Lago/classified documents controversy. However, when Colbert was off on Friday, some viewers were still upset.

There won’t be a new edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight, which is further terrible news if you belong to that group.

Instead, the September 6 show will be replayed on CBS. Colbert’s conversation with journalist Alex Wagner and Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood, Jr. can be seen by interested viewers once more.

The Late Show isn’t new tonight, so why? For the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, Colbert and a few members of the staff are in Los Angeles.

The programme is competing against Jimmy Kimmel Live for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Those programmes include Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
