According to NBC and CBS Los Angeles, Kenneth Petty, the rapper Nicki Minaj’s husband, was found guilty of failing to register as a sexual offender and was sentenced to probation and house detention as a result of his conviction.

According to the reports of the local news sites, Petty is also had to pay a fine of $55,000 in addition to serving a total of four years of probation and one year of home detention for her crime.

Petty’s attorneys Michael Goldstein and Hagop Kuyumjian released a statement on Wednesday to USA TODAY in which they expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the decision made by the court to grant the defense’s plea for probation and home confinement.

According to NBC and CBS, Petty entered a guilty plea for the crime of failing to register as a sexual offender the previous year.

Hough detailed the incident where she claims Petty sexually assaulted her that year before school. Petty claimed that when Hough approached her at the bus stop, he shoved something into her back and forced her inside a nearby house.

Hough sues Petty and Minaj

In August 2021, Hough filed a lawsuit in the Eastern District of New York against Minaj and Petty. The plaintiff accused the “Super Bass” rapper and Petty of witness intimidation, emotional distress, harassment, assault, and violence in the complaint acquired by USA TODAY.

Tyrone Blackburn, Hough’s attorney, claimed in the document that Minaj and Petty had pressured her to keep quiet about Petty’s 1994 rape allegations after the matter had become well known on social media.

Hough revealed on “The Real” that a friend of Minaj and Petty visited her at home and offered her $20,000 in exchange for her quiet.

When Hough turned down the offer, the associate allegedly sent her a message suggesting she should have accepted it because “they are going to put that money on my head.”

The U.S. Marshals Service at the time confirmed to USA TODAY that Petty turned himself in to federal jail in March 2020 after failing to register as a sex offender in California.

Prior to getting married to Minaj in October of that same year, Petty relocated to Los Angeles in July of that same year. However, court records state that he willfully neglected to register as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

A sex offender “must update their registration in each county they reside, are employed, or attend school,” according to SORNA. Federal law considers failure to register to be a crime.

According to the Sex Offender Registry for the state of New York, in April 1995, Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape in connection with an assault that took place in 1994 and occurred when both he and the victim were 16 years old.

He was given a sentence ranging from eighteen to fifty-four months in state prison. According to the statistics kept by the New York State Department of Corrections, he served little less than four years before being released in January 1999.

According to the website of the Department of Corrections (DOC), Petty was sentenced to return to prison in 2006 following a conviction for first-degree manslaughter and served nearly seven years before being released on parole in May 2013.
