MO., KANSAS CITY — Against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, the Tennessee Titans were without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Tannehill’s status for the game was in doubt due to an ankle injury, and he was ruled out after the team re-evaluated his ankle during pregame warmups.

Sunday’s game was the culmination of a week in which Tannehill taped up his right ankle for Wednesday and Friday practices. But he didn’t show up to Thursday’s practice.

Before last week’s game against the Houston Texans, Tannehill had started 49 consecutive games at quarterback for Tennessee, an NFL record.

For the second game in a row, the Titans went with rookie quarterback Malik Willis. Willis made his first career start last week, leading the Panthers to a 17-10 victory over the Texans despite going 6-of-10 for 55 yards with one interception and no touchdowns.

Willis praised the city of Kansas City as “a great football environment” on Friday. “They plan to have 80,000 people shouting at us. That’s the whole point of the game. They put up an excellent defensive front. We need to go out there and carry out the offensive strategy.”

On Saturday, quarterback Logan Woodside was promoted from the Titans’ practice squad to the active roster. Woodside was Tennessee’s No. 2 quarterback.

Injury Report On Ryan Tannehill

Tannehill has a stomach bug and a sprained ankle, so he won’t be able to play against the Texans on Sunday. According to reports, the former was the main cause for concern before kickoff.

Injury report on Ryan Tannehill

Tannehill was sick with an upset stomach again on Saturday, so he didn’t participate in practice. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to the ankle sprain he sustained in Tennessee’s Week 7 victory over the Colts.

Later in the game, he was seen wearing a walking boot to help him deal with the pain in his ankle, which he had taped up before returning to the game. On Sunday, Tannehill’s streak of 49 straight starts at quarterback will come to an end, setting a new franchise record.

It’s a foregone conclusion that Malik Willis, a third-round draft pick, will start in place of Tannehill while he’s out. The future starting quarterback for the team has seen limited action so far in 2022.

Only 20 plays have been credited to the former Liberty star in two games. In Week 2’s losing effort to Buffalo, he went 1 for 4 passing for 6 yards and 4 for 16 rushings. And he fumbled the ball, too.

One of the three plays credited to Willis in the Week 7 victory over the Colts was a fumble on a would-be sweep.

On Friday, Willis said, “Being prepared is probably my best bet” regarding the possibility of starting. You should get ready for each game as if you’ll start.

In all three of the Titans’ preseason contests, Willis got the nod at quarterback. In total, he threw for 318 yards, scored twice on 28 completions, and threw an interception on 51 attempts. He also ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. In addition, he was sacked nine times, losing 53 yards.

On Sunday, backup safety Logan Woodside will be called up from the practice squad to replace Willis.
