Activision Has Stated That The Next Major Call Of Duty Game Will Be Released In 2023!

next full premium' Call of Duty release update

Activision has announced that the “next full premium” Call of Duty will be released in 2023, nearly 10 days after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, the 2022 reboot sequel to the 2019 reboot. As such, it marks Call of Duty’s 20th installment overall.

For the fiscal year 2023, “Activision is looking forward to building on its current momentum,” the company said in a press release. “Next year, plans include the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series, and even more engaging free-to-play experiences across platforms.”

The statement runs counter to rumors that there won’t be a new Call of Duty game in 2023 and that Activision is considering a change in the releases that would forego the series’ traditional annual launch event.

Yet the company has not confirmed that there will be a game to continue the annual tradition and has instead disputed the report. For the remainder of this year, next year, and beyond, we have a fantastic lineup of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences.

There is no truth to the contrary rumors. Activision’s official spokesperson Neil Wood said in February that the company was looking forward to providing more information “when the time is right.”

According to Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has broken sales records since its October 28 release, becoming the fastest premium Call of Duty release to cross $1 billion in sales across all platforms.

Apparently, the first season’s worth of in-game content will be made available on November 16 by the developer.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, the publisher’s upcoming expansion to the Modern Warfare universe, will launch on November 16. It will feature new sandbox activities for fans of the series.

In addition to the release of the “next full premium” Call of Duty in the third quarter of 2023, Activision will also release Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. In the first half of this year, we saw the debut of the game.

In other news, the company blames Call of Duty: Vanguard for a nearly $300 million annual decline in revenue reported for the third quarter between 2020 and 2021. Compared to the previous year’s third quarter (2022), the company’s net revenue was $2.07 billion in 2021.

Activision Blizzard blamed “reduced engagement for Call of Duty following the weaker reception for last year’s premium release” for the poor financial results. The company has high hopes for the remainder of 2022 after the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The PC version of Modern Warfare 2, which recently set a record for the quickest Call of Duty game to sell over $1 billion, is also doing very well. It has been reported by Activision Blizzard that PC sales of Modern Warfare 2 are roughly twice as high as “recent strong titles in the series.” The number of hours spent with the game in its first 10 days is also a franchise high, having increased by more than 40 percent from the previous record.

It is no secret that Vanguard has had poor sales numbers compared to the rest of the franchise. Activision Blizzard was disappointed in the sales of their best-selling 2021 game because “the game’s World War II setting didn’t resonate with some of our community.”

Last Words

Activision Blizzard’s quarterly earnings report for the three months ending on Monday revealed that the company has plans to release the “next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series” of Call of Duty games in 2023.

(pdf). Call of Duty games typically come out in the fall, so this wouldn’t normally be a big deal. However, Bloomberg reported in February that Activision Blizzard was planning to delay its annual entry for 2023.

Because Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021 did not perform as well as expected, Activision Blizzard was reportedly planning to push back the 2023 release date for the sequel. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported in January that the firm was contemplating revising its annual reports.

However, Activision Blizzard did not explicitly confirm the 2023 release date for the game, and at the time it seemed to dispute the report.

In February, Activision’s spokesperson Neil Wood said, “We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year, and beyond.” Anything to the contrary is false. When the time is right, we hope to provide further information.
