Mills Lane died

Former boxer, referee, Washoe County district attorney, and judge Mills Lane passed away on Tuesday morning in Reno. Lane’s age at death was specified as 85.

Tommy Lane, Lane’s son, informed the RGJ that his father passed away last week while receiving hospice care. In April of 2002, 20 years ago, Lane had a stroke.

A decline in his overall situation was “significant,” as Tommy Lane put it. “When they left, they left quickly. Relaxed and with loved ones close by, he felt at peace.”His death was witnessed by his wife Kaye and his two sons, Terry and Tommy.

“He might not have had much time left. We had an impression that we were getting ready for this the whole time, but in reality, there is no way to get ready for this “Quote from Tommy Lane.

According to Tommy Lane, his family has spent the last few days watching a number of his father’s all-time favorite films, such as “The Godfather,” “On the Waterfront,” “Patton,” and “Shane,” as well as “Somebody Up There Likes Me,” starring Paul Newman as Rocky Graziano.

As an added bonus, they watched Lane’s college boxing championship bout from 1960. The last few days we spent with him were fantastic,” Tommy Lane said. “He had just finished his breakfast. So, we bribed him with Dairy Queen.”

Tommy Lane stated that at this time there are no plans for a funeral but that a memorial service could be held in the future.

According to Tommy Lane, “he detested funerals.” Rather than a funeral, “we might do some sort of send-off, celebration at a bar or something like that.”To former Washoe County DA Dick Gammick, Lane was a mentor and a brother figure.

Gammick said that Lane hated having to deal with the consequences of the stroke, especially the difficulty he had in communicating.

Losing his voice was “the worst thing that could have happened to Mills,” Gammick said. Reno is indebted to him for all that he has done for the city. According to him, Lane assisted many kids in the area. Nevada boxing club coach and ex-president of USA Boxing Mike Martino saw Lane the day before he passed away.

It was Lane’s role as the claymation referee on MTV’s satirical show “Celebrity Death Match” that made him a cultural icon for the network.

After leaving the bench, he became the public face of the reality TV show “Judge Mills Lane,” in which he acted as an arbitrator. From 1998-2001, the show aired for its full three-year run.
