In February of 2019, the former England cricketer and father of four was involved in an accident in which he collided with a market booth in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. In September of that same year, he was filming at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire when he was involved in a crash during a drag race; however, he was not injured in the accident.

Richard Hammond, a former host on Top Gear, was hospitalised after being involved in a major accident at the same airfield in 2006. The accident left him in a coma. Flintoff began his role as a host on Top Gear in 2019, and he currently appears with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris on the show.

Both Colin Flintoff and his brother Chris were cricket players; Colin currently competes for Whittingham Cricket Club in the Preston area.
