After a meeting with film director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, who had recently revealed their future slate for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which includes a film about a younger version of Superman, Henry Cavill broke the devastating news to his followers on Instagram. Henry Cavill has confirmed that he will not be returning as Superman in this new age through the use of his Instagram account. This news comes after James Gunn made the announcement that the master plan for the new DC has been finalised. Later this week, Gunn said on Twitter that he and Peter Safran, the co-president of DC Studios, have finalised a schedule of DC movies and television shows and will release additional details in the new year.

But Gunn also revealed one film with us, and it’s a movie about a young Superman that takes place during his early days as a reporter. As a direct consequence of this turn of events, Cavill will not be returning to the role. On his Instagram page, Cavill stated that the rumour was true and wrote, “Everyone, I’m sorry to say that I just got out of a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran where we discussed some unfortunate news. After careful consideration, I have decided not to reprise my role as Superman.”

Superman is the Biggest Priority for DC

Gunn disclosed that Superman was his top goal while working for DC, and he announced that the upcoming Superman film will centre on a younger version of the character during his early days working as a journalist. Although Gunn will not be directing the film himself, he is responsible for penning the screenplay.

Although Cavill will not play the role of Superman in the upcoming DC film, Gunn claims that he and Cavill discussed various ways in which they could collaborate in the future. The whole DC plot is not likely to be revealed until the following year. Cavill has recently confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as Geralt on Netflix.

It comes as a surprise that the actor has decided to leave the role, particularly after DC chiefs Peter Safran and James Gunn made it clear that they were interested in having Henry play a role in the new DC Universe. According to Deadline, Gunn has officially made known the plans for the future of the DCEU, and it seems that a cinematic adaptation of “Superman” is in the works, but the story will centre on the Man of Steel in his younger years.

Gunn stated unequivocally that “It’s not an origins story,” and added that now the role of Superman in the movie will be given to someone actor of a younger age. Most recently, Henry disclosed that he will no longer be appearing in the popular Netflix series “The Witcher.” There have been rumours that Liam Hemsworth will take on the role beginning with the upcoming season.

Although this was before James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on board to run DC, Cavill said that the studio had instructed him to make the announcement of his return in October. “An event that takes place is the changing of the guard. I honour that. James and Peter need to create a universe. I send my best wishes and luck to them and everyone else involved with the new universe.”

Cavill’s status as Superman was said to be less certain than it was when he announced his comeback earlier. Cavill certainly affirms that there were ideas for the film at the time he said he would return for a Man of Steel sequel. But as soon as Gunn and Safran were hired, those plans were altered.

Henry Cavill won’t be portraying Superman because the first half of our story will centre on a different period in his life.”

James also informed the audience that he has been working on the script for the upcoming Superman movie “for a time” and that the director has not yet been chosen.
