Shantaram Will Not Ride Again: Apple Has Decided To End Charlie Hunnam’s Show After Only One Season!

charlie hunnam shantaram is canceled

Charlie Hunnam’s return to television was eagerly anticipated by Sons of Anarchy’s fan base, but the actor’s stint on the small screen will be cut short.

Shantaram, starring Charlie Hunnam and based on a novel by Gregory David Roberts, has been canceled by Apple TV+ after a single season, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

In an interview for the season one finale, Hunnam told EW, “I don’t know what conversations are going on about a second season.” I have no idea if there are even preliminary talks about Season 2 taking place.

What he said next was even more shocking “Unlike traditional television networks, streaming services make their decisions based on a very simple formula: if a show is popular enough to generate a lot of advertising revenue, it will almost certainly be brought back.

How streaming services use math to decide whether or not to bring back a show is a mystery to me. Most streaming services are reluctant to publicly reveal specific viewership information for their shows, so it’s impossible to know for sure how many people are watching. To that end, hear me out: your best guess is as good as mine.”

In the film Shantaram, Hunnam played the role of Lin Ford, a wanted man who goes to Bombay in the 1980s in an attempt to disappear from his problems. And things get more complicated when he develops feelings for Antonia Desplat’s fascinating Karla.

Perhaps Charlie Hunnam Will Come Back To Sons Of Anarchy

Even though Apple TV+’s Shantaram wasn’t as popular as the company had hoped, Hunnam has experience with other series that have lasted for multiple seasons.

Perhaps Charlie Hunnam Will Come Back To Sons Of Anarchy

The actor played Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy for a decade, from 2008 to 2014. Hunnam said in the lead-up to Shantaram that he’d love to return to his Sons of Anarchy role. “I have an idea that I’m exploring in its early stages that [Jax’s return] could be a possibility,” he said.

“Furthermore, I would be very thrilled about it. We’re still in the early stages of investigating the concept’s viability, but I hope to have more information by the time we speak again.” There has been no further development on the Jax project, but the Sons of Anarchy universe is still going strong thanks to the renewal of the Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans M.C. by FX in July 2022.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon may be Hunnam’s next big screen role, following the cancellation of Shantaram and the uncertainty of a Jax spinoff project. Hunnam said he hurt himself badly while filming Rebel Moon because he overtrained and didn’t pay attention to his body.

Hunnam said, “I have a totally exploded S1 [areas that affect the hips and groin] and S2 [the back of the thighs] that are torn wide open, a hundred percent dehydrated.” “I have a 40% tear in the ligament on the right side that holds my spinal column in place, and it will take two years to heal,” she said.

Cancellation Of Charlie Hunnam’s New TV Show

Shantaram, a new Apple TV+ show starring Charlie Hunnam, has been axed. According to Deadline’s reporting, this Friday’s Season 1 finale will be the final episode of the series on the streaming service. The entire season is now available on Apple TV+, with all 12 episodes. There does not appear to be a statement from Hunnam regarding the cancellation of his new show at this time.

Hunnam stars as Lin Ford, an escaped prisoner who holds up in the Bombay slums in India, but whose past begins to catch up with him in the tense drama thriller Shantaram. Gregory David Roberts’s novel of the same name served as inspiration for the TV show. Other than Hunnam,

the impressive cast of Shantaram includes Fayssal Bazzi, Sujaya Dasgupta, Antonia Desplat, Elham Ehsas, David Field, Matthew Joseph, Rachel Kamath, Alyy Khan, Elektra Kilbey, Shiv Palekar, Luke Pasqualino, Vincent Perez, Shubham Saraf, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, and Alexander Siddig.

During our chat, we asked Dasgupta about her time working with Charlie Hunnam, whom she called an “incredible” human being. I was surprised by his realism,” she said.

Without Apple TV+, Is It Possible To Watch Shantaram Online?

That just can’t happen, sadly. The only place to watch Shantaram is on Apple TV+. Apple TV+ has a monthly price of $4.99 and a free trial period of seven days.

There are always new additions to their film and television library, which already boasts an extensive library of award-winning dramas, insightful documentaries, and hilarious comedies.

Is There A Trailer For Shantaram?

On September 14, 2022, Apple TV+ premiered the teaser for Shantaram. In this 1980s crime drama, a fugitive named Lin Ford (Charlie Hunnam) breaks free from the confines of a maximum security prison and makes a dash for the streets of Bombay, but not without the watchful eyes of the law following his every move.

Lin manages his new life in Bombay without causing too much of a stir, despite being an outsider in the middle of all the action. He makes fast friends with everyone he meets, from an intriguing and endearing woman to a gushing local tour guide. Shantaram is a story about a man who, despite his flaws, longs for freedom and redemption. It is a story full of love, connection, and tension.

Final Words

Apple Inc. licensed and distributed the show for Apple TV+, with contributions from producers Fair Honest Positive Creative, The 4 Keys, Bohemian Risk Productions, Square Head Productions, Anonymous Content, and Paramount Television Studios. On October 14, 2022, the premiere episode of the show was broadcast.
