Chicago shootings 5 juveniles among 35 shot, 5 killed in Halloween weekend violence, CPD says

WLS-TV in Chicago, Illinois. Police in Chicago report that at least 35 people were shot over the weekend, with 5 of those shooting victims dying. On Sunday night, two people were injured in a drive-by shooting in West Woodlawn on the South Side.

It was around 11:20 p.m. on South Rhodes Avenue in the 6600 blocks when a sedan drove by and opened fire, killing two men, ages 30 and 28, according to Chicago police.

They say the older man was shot in the chest and the younger man was hit in the buttocks. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where their conditions were reported to be stable.

No One Was Under Arrest

During the early hours of Sunday, six people were shot in Chicago, including a 15-year-old boy. The teen was shot in the left leg at around 2 a.m. while walking with another person in the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to Chicago police. Reports from Comer Children’s Hospital indicate that his condition is stable.

Two men, aged 27 and 25, were sitting in a parked car in the 2300 block of West Taylor Street at around 2:25 a.m. when shots were fired from another vehicle, striking both of them. Officials said the elderly man was dropped off at Stroger Hospital after being shot in the right leg. The younger man was brought in by his older brother with a gunshot wound to the back, but he was in good condition when he arrived at the same hospital.

No One Was Under Arrest

A 24-year-old man was walking in the 9700 block of South Jeffery Boulevard at the same time when shots were fired from a passing black sedan, police said. He drove himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was reported to be stable.

Ten minutes earlier, on the 3600 block of North Newcastle Avenue, someone opened fire on two women, ages 25 and 23, who were standing in the kitchen. Police said the elderly woman was taken to Community First Hospital with a graze to the left knee but was otherwise in good condition. The younger lady got scratched on the left arm but declined medical attention. No perpetrators of any of the attacks had been apprehended.


On Saturday night, a 17-year-old boy’s body was discovered and shot to death in the Near South Side. Near 7 o’clock that evening, Chicago police discovered the boy with a gunshot wound to the head in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in an alley in the 1900 block of South State Street. According to police, he was pronounced dead at the scene. No supplementary data was accessible. There were no detentions.

On Sunday morning, a woman was fatally shot in the Montclare neighborhood of Chicago’s Northwest Side. Chicago police say that at around 3:10 a.m., a person inside a vehicle opened fire, striking the 20-year-old woman in the head as she stood on the sidewalk in the 6800 block of West Grand Avenue. According to the police, she was pronounced dead at the scene. No one knows who she is just yet. No one was under arrest.

According to statistics maintained by the Chicago Sun-Times, the woman is the first fatality to occur in Montclare in 2018. According to Sun-Times records, four more homicides occurred in the area in 2019 alone. In 2019, there were no reported murders in this area.

Chicago police say a 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, right bicep, and right knee while standing in the street in the 1100 block of North Waller Avenue at around 10:35 a.m. When paramedics took him to Stroger Hospital, doctors there pronounced him dead. His identity remains concealed. No one was under arrest.


A man was shot and killed on Saturday night in the front yard of a home in Fernwood, on the Far South Side. Around 6:15 p.m., the 27-year-old victim was standing in the 400 block of West 104th Street when he was shot in the neck, according to Chicago police. According to police, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Additional details about the shooting were unavailable. No one was under arrest.

Police in Chicago has reported that a child was shot near a West Side sidewalk on Saturday afternoon, though the child was unharmed. The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of West 13th Street in the Little Italy neighborhood at 5:08 p.m., police said. A 12-year-old kid was shot in the leg as he stood on the curb. It was reported that the boy was in good condition upon arrival at Stroger Hospital. No one has been taken into custody, but detectives are looking into the situation. When asked for more details about the shooting, police withheld them.

Chicago police say that hours later, on the Southwest Side of the city, a woman was shot while taking out the trash. At 8:24 p.m. on Tuesday, a shooting occurred in the 1900 block of South Miller Street, according to police. A person or people in a black SUV opened fire on a blue sedan. The victim, a 20-year-old woman who was collecting trash at the time, was shot in the leg, according to the police. Despite her moderate injuries, she was transferred to Stroger Hospital. There were no further reports of injuries, and nobody has been taken into custody. The detectives from Sector 3 are currently looking into the matter.
