On Friday, police in Koreatown released the name of the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car. The coroner’s office confirmed that the deceased was Antonio Lopez, a 45-year-old Los Angeles resident.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision took place on Thursday morning at 12:50 a.m. on Western Avenue, north of Wilshire Boulevard.
The man was crossing Western in the No. 2 lane, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling southbound, police said. The driver did not stop and continued on. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of the paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A Hit-And-Run Driver Has Been Arrested Following A Fatal Collision In Westminster
The violent crash that took the life of one man and injured another last Friday in Westminster has resulted in a man being charged with murder and several other offenses.
Fred Harper Jr., age 29, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, driving under the influence of drugs resulting in bodily injury, hit-and-run resulting in death or serious bodily harm, hit-and-run resulting in injury, and petty theft. In addition, he could face harsher punishment because of the severe injuries he caused in the accident.
He is suspected of being at fault for the horrific accident that took place on December 16 in Westminster, close to where Newland Street and Westminster Avenue meet. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department reportedly made initial contact with him less than a block away, where he was, to question him about the fake tags on his black Chevrolet Camaro.
He should have pulled over when he saw the police, but he drove off in an attempt to evade them and crashed into another car carrying two people.
A 64-year-old man named Eduardo Hernandez of Stanton was killed in the collision, and a 54-year-old man was seriously hurt. Harper ran away on foot after the collision but was caught hours later by law enforcement from OCSD, Westminster, and Garden Grove.

A Hit-And-Run Driver Fatally Injured A Father Of Four At A Pomona Taco Stand;
POMN, Calif. (KABC) — On Saturday, authorities and family members revealed the identity of the 52-year-old man killed when a hit-and-run driver plowed into a busy taco stand in Pomona, also injuring 12 people.
The coroner’s office in Los Angeles County has identified the deceased as Gilberto Cazares Payan. Payan was a father of four, according to a statement made by his goddaughter to ABC7, and he had been on his way to the taco stand to pick up some food for the family on the night of the violent collision.
As reported by the Pomona Police Department, the collision occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the area of West Holt Avenue and Dudley Street, close to Kiwanis Park. When the driver lost control of his car, it crashed through the pop-up tent covering the stand, knocking over tables and chairs.
Witness Carlos Gonzalez said, “As soon as you heard the hit, you see the man right there; he was already laying down.” When you turn around, everything has already been completed because “it all happens in a split second.”
The firefighter paramedics who responded to the scene pronounced Payan dead.Police reported 12 additional hospitalized patients, including 3 with life-threatening injuries. There was no new information about their conditions on Saturday.
A 26-year-old woman from Pomona, California, who was driving at the time of the accident, fled the scene but later surrendered to police. The police said in a statement that she was taken into custody on suspicion of two felonies: criminally negligent homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident involving death or serious bodily harm
