The Illinois State Police say that at around 3:10 a.m., a blue 2007 GMC Yukon heading north on Interstate 55 attempted to change lanes despite the wet conditions. According to the responding troopers, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, which then swerved off the road, collided with a guardrail, and flipped over.
The vehicle’s occupants included the 39-year-old driver, the 32-year-old female passenger, and four children, ages 4, 12, and 13.
All of the injured people involved in the collision were transported to a local hospital. Sadly, the girl’s death at age 12 was officially confirmed.
