WLS-TV in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago police say that a man in the Lakeview neighborhood was attacked early Monday morning with a wooden board that had a nail sticking out of it. The man suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital.
At 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2019, three male suspects approached the victim, a 40-year-old man, as he walked on the sidewalk in the 700 block of West Buckingham Place, according to police.
Using a wooden board tacked with a nail, the suspects allegedly began striking the victim before fleeing.
Police said the victim was severely injured, with multiple puncture wounds and lacerations to his head and neck. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. The police are reviewing footage from nearby security cameras.

According to the police, the robber used a screwdriver and a closed fist to attack the victim before making off with his belongings. The victim also sustained injuries to his face, back, and groin.
