Shortly after we receive our first glance at Darth Vader‘s unmasked face for the first time at the conclusion of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he passes away. When the Prequel Trilogy was released, it came as a surprise to many fans that Anakin Skywalker was a much younger person than they would have expected him to be when he became Darth Vader.
At first, many fans were surprised to see that he appeared to be an elderly man; however, they were even more surprised to learn this after watching the films in the Prequel Trilogy. So, exactly how old was the formidable Darth Vader when he passed away?
How old was Anakin Skywalker when he died?
When he passed away, Darth Vader had lived for 45 years. This is based on the chronological order of events, which begins in 41 BBY with the birth of Anakin Skywalker and concludes in 4 ABY with Vader’s death in the film Return of the Jedi. Anakin Skywalker was born in the year 41 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), although he was not found on Tatooine by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn until he was nine years old.
This was because Qui-Gon Jinn was away from Tatooine at this time. When the events of Attack of the Clones took place in 19 BBY, Anakin Skywalker was only nineteen years old. Just three years later, in 19 BBY, he would become Darth Vader. In the year zero, construction of the Death Star was finally finished, but it was dismantled not long after.
Bringing us all the way up to the year 4 ABY, which is After the Battle of Yavin, when Darth Vader passes away at the age of 45. Anakin Skywalker’s age at the beginning of the sequel trilogy, which begins with “The Force Awakens,” would have been 79 years old if he had been spared and lived through the events of the original trilogy.
Unfortunately, the fans never got to witness that dream come true in their lifetimes. On the other hand, Darth Vader did make a comeback in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that aired on Disney Plus in 2022, and he is also scheduled to appear in the Ahsoka series that will air in the near future.

Darth Vader cause of Death
It was the extensive damage to Darth Vader’s costume in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” that finally led to his demise. The armour that Darth Vader wore had a breathing mechanism built into it, and it was connected to an air filter. Because of this, he was able to take a breath. The same same method that was utilised in order to generate the notorious breathing sound that Darth Vader utilised.
Following Anakin’s reconciliation with the light side of the Force, Emperor Palpatine attacked him with force lightning, which resulted in the destruction of his armour. In the last few minutes of his life, Anakin begged Luke to remove his helmet so that he might finally see Luke’s face. He passed away shortly after making this request. Luke acted in accordance with his demand.
Is Darth Vader Rally Dead?
After what seems to be his death in Luke’s arms, Anakin Skywalker makes a final appearance in the film Return of the Jedi as a ghost of the Force. This leads one to wonder whether or not he actually passed away. The correct response is “yes.” To all intents and purposes, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, and Yoda—all of whom also appear as Force ghosts—have all passed away.
Their spirits were consumed by the Force, as their bodies vanished into thin air. The fact that Anakin may now be seen as a ghost of the Force demonstrates that his salvation is complete. He turned his back on the evil side and turned back toward the good side once more. His consciousness would continue to exist in the Force even after his body had passed away.

Who voiced Darth Vader?
This is not an exception to the rule that the voice of Darth Vader plays an essential part in expressing the character’s menace and the actual weight that he carries; instead, it continues the tradition that began decades before. Because James Earl Jones provided the voice of Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the character has a sound that is instantly recognisable and does not stray much from any of his prior incarnations.
This is because James Earl Jones provided the voice of Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi. There were rumours circulating that either Jones would come back for another season of the programme or that the part of Darth Vader will be played by someone else in the future. However, as if the easily recognisable sounds weren’t enough evidence, the credits for episode 3 of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s series also show that Jones is supplying the voice for Darth Vader in this particular instance.
