Danganronpa 3 Development
On December 2, 2015, at a presentation press conference hosted by Spike Chunsoft, the anime was first teased. Kyoko, Aoi, and Makoto are shown in handcuffs in the teaser image.
At first, the intention was to adapt Danganronpa 2 into an animated series. See for yourself in the preview: The first trailer for the Danganronpa 3 anime begins with a “2” fading in from the back as if announcing an anime of Danganronpa 2.
This is reminiscent of the first teaser trailer for Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, which gave the impression that the upcoming installment would focus on the everyday lives of the cast of the first two games prior to The Tragedy. However, as in the Danganronpa Another Episode teaser, the unexpected appearance of Monokuma “shatters the fans’ hope,” leading to the actual announcement.
When it became “too painful for the students of Hope’s Peak Academy to kill each other again,” the creators changed their minds and settled on an anime as the series’ final installment. A game adaptation of the story would have been too light for the serious things the creators had in mind, so they decided to stick with the anime format instead. Although there will be no detective work involved, the plot will still be suspenseful.
Famitsu Weekly published a spread with twelve new Future Foundation-related characters on March 22, 2016.
A new teaser trailer unveiled the titles and broad outlines of the next two episodes. Despite what Kodaka said, the trailer for Future Arc suggests that there will be a new killing game and that “hope will kill hope” (meaning that the 16 members of the Future Foundation are forced to kill each other).
Fans were angered by Kodaka’s tweets before the trailer was released, in which he gave the impression that the Remnants of Despair would play no role in the plot and wouldn’t appear again. Trailers have shown, however, that they will receive their own chapter.

Kodaka admitted it was all a lie and expressed regret, saying, “I apologize to everyone I worried with my tweets the other day. I felt like demonstrating the gap between hopelessness and optimism and being a little mischievous.
Having a sneaky disposition inspires much of what I create, but it’s never a good idea to be dishonest. Until you’re happy, I don’t mind hearing things like, “what a horrible prank, Kodaka” or “I like what he makes, but he’s a bad person.”
Music For The Opening And Closing Credits
Despair Arc’s opening theme, titled Kami-iro Awase (, lit. Matching the Color of God), was announced by the band binaria on May 10, 2016. Meanwhile, Megumi Ogata will voice Nagito Komaeda in the closing theme, Zettai Kib Birthday (), which she will perform.
DEAD OR LIE, the opening theme for Future Arc, was announced on May 17, 2016, and it will be performed by Maon Kurosaki and TRUSTRICK, which consists of Billy and Sayaka Kanda. While TRUSTRICK will be providing the final theme, which will be titled “Recall THE END.”
