Since its premiere in July 2016, Stranger Things has consistently ranked as one of Netflix’s most popular shows. Every passing season brings with it a heightened sense of anticipation.
Increased interest in the Stranger Things franchise
There has been an unprecedented level of interest in this Netflix series. All previous viewing records were shattered after the fourth season’s release. The first episode of Season 4’s first volume was streamed for 7.2 billion minutes in its first week on Netflix, shattering the previous record held by any streaming show according to Nielsen. It happened between the 30th of May and the 5th of June, 2022. The show’s second volume was met with overwhelming interest upon its release. It’s possible that some users’ connections were lost as they frantically tried to watch the season finale.
Will Season 5 Of “Stranger Things” Be Available At Some Point Soon?
That, of course, is a question for the season’s production schedule. The Duffer brothers announced in August 2022 that they had begun writing season 5, and in a 2022 profile with British GQ, David Harbour dropped hints that production on season 5 would begin in 2023.
“Don’t hold us to it,” the Duffer brothers told Variety, “but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, given that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus.”
Harbour suggested in an interview with JoBlo Celebrity Interviews that filming the show’s final season could take as long as eight to nine months. When Season 5 begins filming, viewers will have a better idea.
How Far In The Future Will Stranger Things 5 Take Place?
Though it has been established that each season of Stranger Things takes place a year later, whether or not season 5 will actually take place in 1987 remains to be seen. Just how far into the future will they travel now that the Upside Down is rapidly spreading throughout Hawkins and the threat from Vecna is very very real? Once we have more information, we will update this article.
It’s possible that the show’s continuation past March 1988 will coincide with the premiere of Beetlejuice, which features Winona Ryder in her real-life superstar role. This is especially true for a show like Stranger Things, which heavily alludes to other works of popular culture.
Synopsis Of Season 5 Of Stranger Things
A tear-jerker is in store for you. The Duffer Brothers claim that just hearing their pitch for season five of Stranger Things caused Netflix executives to start crying.
Matt Duffer told The Wrap that the show’s creators already have a plan in place for season five. “Okay, so it was challenging. The final chapter has been written. It was crazy to see high-level executives in tears that I’d never seen cry before.”
The stakes should be higher the next time around, so here’s hoping! Given how many years have passed, it seems strange that all the major players are still alive, even if a couple of characters did die by the end of season four (and were probably added in solely to be killed off).
Even Max, who did die briefly in season four, returned unexpectedly at the end, undermining the impact of her supposed death with some cowardly backtracking. Despite how great Sadie Sink was as a season four regular, a decision like this would remove some much-needed tension from the show.
However, this may set the stage for a future tragic story arc for Max. Sadie said to Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t know where we’re going and what Max’s state is.” Right now, “everything is a crapshoot.”
While it seems the actress is as clueless as the rest of us are at the moment, she did say that she is excited to find out how Max is doing in season five. She continued, “I’m just as excited as everyone else to find out where Max is and how she’s doing.”
Stranger Things season 5 cast
Though we desperately hoped for their survival, as you know by now, not everyone made it through season four.
Season 5 will still have a slew of important players to keep track of, and the show’s original cast members will almost certainly return for it.
- Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers
- David Harbour as Jim Hopper
- Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven/Jane Hopper
- Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler
- Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson
- Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair
- Noah Schnapp as Will Byers
- Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield
- Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler
- Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers
- Joe Keery as Steve Harrington
- Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley
- Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman
- Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair
- Paul Reiser as Dr. Sam Owens
- Jamie Campbell Bower as Peter Ballard/Henry Creel/One/Vecna
- Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler
- Eduardo Franco as Argyle
- Gabriella Pizzolo as Susie
These are just the good guys; there are plenty more to keep track of besides. It’s likely that some of the villains (or morally dubious characters) will return as well.
Jamie Campbell-Bower, as Henry/001/Vecna, stands head and shoulders above the rest. Please think of the actor who must spend hours in the make-up chair to transform into this terrifying, tentacle-covered uber villain.
Actor Jamie has been staunchly defending his character, Vecna, despite the fact that it’s pretty obvious Vecna is the epitome of evil (who’s even created his own version of Hell to rule over in the Upside Down), and he’s even hinted that we might see more of Vecna’s humanity by the end of Stranger Things.
How Many Episodes Are In Stranger Things Season 5?
Season 5 will undoubtedly repeat the success of season 4, which broke viewership records despite the lengthy episode runtimes (episode 9 lasted an eye-popping 2 hours and 19 minutes).
While the season finale is expected to be “pretty massive,” the episodes themselves will be shorter this time around.
“It came as a bit of a surprise to us that the running times were so lengthy. Given that the scripts themselves aren’t particularly lengthy, Ross and I have been trying to figure out how they got to be so extensive “As Matt Duffer revealed to THR.
“Some of us have noticed that we’ve altered our writing style slightly in terms of the way we divide up description. That probably made it a bit longer. In addition, there was another plot involving Hopper in Russia. It’s a time of great density. Until we got into edit, we weren’t sure if they were actually that long.”
Ross continued: “The tempo is our main concern. It will be successful on our part if we can keep your attention for the full 1 hour and 15 minutes. We did talk about ending it early. We settled on the option of pausing the video and coming back to it later if it proved too long for the viewer. Like reading a book, essentially. This can be viewed at your leisure.”
