On May 2, 1936, Arnold George Dorsey was born in Madras, India. Humperdinck was one of Mervyn Dorsey’s 10 children with his wife Olive, a British Army NCO. Why Engelbert changes his name
He had the opportunity to record in 1958 with Decca Records following his discharge from the Army. I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, his debut single, did not do well. He continued to perform in nightclubs until he was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1961. He ultimately got well and tried his hand at music again, but with little success. He joined forces with Gordon Mills, a former roommate in London’s Bayswater neighbourhood who was now Tom Jones’ manager.
To make the name more memorable, Mills suggested changing it to Engelbert Humperdinck. Professionally but not legally, he took the name. Dorsey has been using the moniker since Mills secured him a new contract with Decca Records. He experienced his first taste of popularity in July 1966 in Belgium when he and four other people competed for Brian in the yearly Knokke song competition.

Humperdinck and Patricia Healey, both devout Catholics, tied the knot in 1964. The couple had their first encounter at a nightclub in Leicester called Palais de Danse. Their children’s names were Scott, Jason, Louise, and Bradley, and they split their time between residences in the United Kingdom and Southern California with their family.
It was allegedly remarked by Humperdinck’s wife that she could plaster their bedroom with all of the paternity cases that had been brought against her husband. During the 1970s and 1980s, two different women successfully established paternity claims against him.
