The “Daniels” are an Oscar-winning directing team consisting of Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan.
On Sunday night, the two of them took home the award for best original screenplay.
The names of the co-writers, producers, and directors of “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once,” which was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, will be forever etched into Hollywood lore after the film took home the top prize at the 95th annual ceremony.
Scheinert, who was born in Birmingham, attended Oak Mountain Elementary and Middle Schools before moving on to Shades Valley High School. Ken and Becky, his parents, have relocated to Guntersville.
His father stated that Scheinert’s interest in filmmaking began with high school musical theater and participation in local film competitions.
Beginnings On The Street Corner
Recently, at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, where the film won the most awards for a single film in the show’s 38-year history.
Scheinert gave a shout out to his hometown Sidewalk Film Festival. Before taking the stage, the Daniels made sure to recognize their early supporters.
Scheinert chimed in to thank the people who believed in him at his hometown festival after his filmmaking partner Daniel Kwan had already called out a few names:
“Everyone at the Sundance Labs, the folks at the Spirit Awards, the folks at the Sidewalk Film Festival.”

Scheinert told AL.com,
Last year, Scheinert told AL.com, “But the film bug, it was 20 percent just me doing what my brother did, because he and his friends were all making movies for fun.
They had a public access TV show that they only made like two episodes of, but I loved it. When the high school film I made with my closest friends premiered at the Sidewalk Film Festival and was well-received by the audience.
I was completely floored. This blew my mind, and I thought, “Wow.” From there, we jumped right into trying our hands at filmmaking, Sidewalk Scrambling, and other contests. Interning at the Sidewalk Film Festival was my favorite part of high school.

The movie’s leads also changed the course of events. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh made history when she was the first performer of Southeast Asian ancestry to win an acting award.
Former child star of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and “The Goonies,” Ke Huy Quan, won the award for best supporting actor.

The film also won for best editing and best supporting actress for Jamie Lee Curtis.
In his acceptance speech for best screenplay, Kwan said his impostor syndrome was “at an all time high” and that he has low self-esteem. For supporting him, he acknowledged his mother, wife, and Scheinert.
Scheinert thanked his parents for encouraging his creativity and “all the mommies” when they accepted the award for best direction.
It’s Unclear How Daniel And Daniella First Connected.
After completing his secondary education in Alabama, Scheinert attended Emerson College in Boston, where he met fellow freshman Daniel Kwan, a native of Westborough.
Sunita Mani, a famous actress and stand-up comedian who was a classmate of the duo’s in college, appeared in one of their music videos.
They made a number of shorts before their debut feature, including one called “Interesting Ball,” which is partially about a friend’s prank gone horribly wrong.

The Daniels got their start as directors by helming music videos, such as DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What,” which was nominated for a Grammy.
