Saddam Hussein is definitely dead. He was found guilty of crimes against humanity and executed by hanging on December 30, 2006. The news of his death was carried by media outlets around the world, and there is no reason to believe he is still alive.

What Became Of Saddam Hussein?

It took U.S. forces eight months after the start of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq to capture Saddam Hussein, the former president of Iraq. He was then tried for multiple offenses, including genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

For his part in the massacre of 148 Shia Muslims in the town of Dujail in 1982, he was found guilty of crimes against humanity in November 2006. The judge ordered that he be executed by hanging.

Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging on December 30, 2006, at an Iraqi army base in Baghdad. With the approval of the Iraqi Prime Minister and

in the presence of witnesses, the execution was carried out by Iraqi officials. There was extensive coverage of the event in newspapers and television shows around the world.

Some saw the death of Saddam Hussein as a step towards the eventual stability and transition to democracy in Iraq, as it marked the end of a long and tumultuous chapter in the country’s history.

Exactly What Faith Did Saddam Hussein Profess?

Said Saddam Hussein belonged to the Sunni branch of Islam. His parents were devout Sunnis, and he was born in the Iraqi town of Al-Awja, not far from the city of Tikrit. Although Sunnis and Shias both make up a sizable portion of Iraq’s Muslim population, they are roughly evenly represented throughout the country.

Saddam Hussein’s Sunni heritage helped him keep the majority of Iraq’s Sunni population under control while he repressed the country’s Shia and Kurdish minorities.

Many human rights violations, such as the use of chemical weapons against unarmed Kurdish civilians during the Anfal campaign in the late 1980s, were blamed on his government.

How Would You Sum Up Saddam Hussein’s Legacy?

Saddam Hussein is remembered for his brutal rule over Iraq from 1979 until 2003. The brutal repression of uprisings by Shia and Kurdish groups, as well as the use of chemical weapons against civilian Kurdish populations, were all human rights abuses committed during his reign.

It’s no secret that Saddam Hussein had an aggressive foreign policy; he invaded Iran in 1980 and Kuwait in 1990.

Even though Iraqi forces were driven out of Kuwait during the U.S.-led military intervention known as the Gulf War, Saddam Hussein was able to keep his grip on power.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the United States government claimed that Saddam Hussein was a terrorist supporter and possessed weapons of mass destruction.

In 2003, the United States led an invasion of Iraq in response to these claims, which led to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein’s government and the eventual capture and execution of the dictator.

Saddam Hussein left behind an atmosphere of authoritarianism, brutality, and conflict in Iraq and beyond.

In What Ways Did Saddam Hussein Harm India?

While in power, Saddam Hussein maintained diplomatic and economic ties with India. However, the Indian government saw little tangible benefit from these ties.

India remained neutral during the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, allowing it to continue trade with both sides. Also during this time period, India sent humanitarian aid to Iraq in the form of medical supplies and food.

But India’s actions were consistent with its larger foreign policy goals and had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein’s regime specifically.

In the 1990s, after Iraq invaded Kuwait, India backed UN sanctions against Iraq. However, India was not supportive of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, saying it violated international law and would cause instability in the region.

The Saddam Hussein regime maintained diplomatic ties with India, but there is no evidence to suggest that it did anything particularly helpful for India or that India had any special affinity for the regime.

The United States’ Pursuit Of Saddam Hussein Begs The Question: Why?

Numerous Factors Prompted The United States To Push For Saddam Hussein’s Ouster:

The United States government claimed that Saddam Hussein posed an extremely serious threat to international peace and security due to his possession of WMD (weapons of mass destruction).

The United States claimed that Saddam Hussein’s government possessed chemical and biological weapons and was working to acquire nuclear weapons.

The U.S. government also argued that Saddam Hussein was a threat to American national security because of his alleged support for terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda.

Alleged Human Rights Abuses The Saddam Hussein regime was accused of carrying out a number of human rights abuses, such as the repression of political opposition, the use of chemical weapons against Kurdish civilians, and the brutal repression of uprisings by Shia and Kurdish groups.

To maintain peace and security in the Middle East, the United States government believed that Saddam Hussein’s ouster would be beneficial.

The United States led an international coalition that invaded Iraq militarily in March 2003 to topple the government of Saddam Hussein. Even though no substantial WMD evidence was found after the invasion, the regime was overthrown, and Saddam Hussein was captured and executed.
