The BET Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Queen Latifah in recognition of her groundbreaking 35-year career in the entertainment industry. MC Lyte, Rapsody, Lil’ Kim, and Monie Love all joined forces for a collaborative performance to honor Monie Love as an industry peer or inspiration.

Most people are talking about the star’s final comments, in which she brought up her longtime partner Eboni Nichols and their son Rebel. At the conclusion of her remarks, she wished the audience “Happy Pride!”

Queen Latifah’s sexuality has been the subject of rumors for years, but the successful singer and actress has consistently avoided addressing the speculation by either confirming or denying that she is a lesbian.

She has not spoken publicly about her private life, and her silence regarding her sexual orientation has been compared to that of Jodie Foster and Kevin Spacey, two actors who refused to outwardly deny their homosexuality for years. She would not say yes or no when asked if she is a lesbian.

On the 2013 Golden Globes red carpet, Foster announced his sexual orientation. It was after actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual assault that he finally came forward.

Queen Latifah accepted the award in memory of her mother, who passed away in 2018, next to her father.

“There is no way that I could have been born to anyone other than my father and my mother [who passed away in 2018] who is still so much a part of me.

My family, I love you. Whether I’m flat on my back in the dirt or high in the clouds, my closest friends are there for me. And I know they’ll always have my back.”

Despite being notoriously private and having admitted to having a crush on another woman, the star has made it clear that she loves her partner and their son very much. It’s the first time she’s confirmed the rumors about a new member of her family in public.

I’m going to leave the stage now, but before I go, I want to say how much I appreciate the audience’s enthusiastic backing of every insane thing I’ve ever attempted. Also, I appreciate your voting Equalizer as the best. I love you, Eboni. Love, rebel. Peace. To celebrate your pride, I bid you:

McKensie Mack tweeted after Queen Latifah’s acceptance speech that she had gotten emotional because in it the actress expressed her love for her partner and wished everyone a happy Pride. Black LGBTQ youth who tune in tonight will feel the love and support of our people.

Latifah, her eyes welling up, held up a photo of her mother as she thanked her family, friends, and the women who have inspired her to become an artist.

I’ve seen enough fighting and strife amongst us to know that we’re better off united than divided. “So props to all the female MCs up here tonight,” she shouted, pointing at the other women in the audience who were also performing rap.

She Concluded Her Remarks By Announcing Loudly, “Eboni, My Love.

Love, Rebel. Peace. To Celebrate Your Pride, I Bid You:

Last night was the first time Latifah publicly acknowledged her relationship with Eboni Nichols and their son, Rebel.

For years, Latifah’s sexuality has been a topic of speculation, despite the fact that the singer is notoriously private. In an interview with the New York Times in 2008, Latifah refused to answer questions about her sexuality.

“I don’t mind talking about somebody being gay, but I don’t like talking about my personal life,” she said.

That’s a facet of me that you don’t understand. Sorry. None of us have brought it up in our meetings. I don’t see any reason to broadcast my sexual orientation or my personal life to the world. You can make whatever assumptions you like. You proceed with the action anyhow.
