The verdict in the trial of Alex Murdaugh: Alex Murdaugh is guilty of committing a terrible crime. On the morning of the day he murdered his wife and son, Alex allegedly had a confrontation with something that ultimately prompted him to carry out the crime. A cellphone video played a key role in proving the case against Alex.
On Thursday, a jury found Alex Murdaugh guilty of murdering his wife and son, bringing to a close a case that captured not only the attention of the United States, but also that of the international community.
After six weeks of testimony and cross-examination, the jury deliberated for only three hours on Thursday, ending the trial of a scion of a wealthy South Carolina family.
The murder of Murdaugh’s wife and son resulted in a life sentence being handed down to him on Friday, March 3. The 54-year-old defendant was given two separate life sentences by Judge Clifton Newman.
After the verdict had been announced, the defense asked Judge Clifton Newman to declare a mistrial due to the overwhelming amount of evidence and testimony the jury had heard.
He stated that after the jury deliberated for a long time, it was clear that there was enough proof of guilt to convict the defendant. To convict the defendant “if the evidence was believed by the jury,” the court ruled that “there was sufficient evidence to find the defendant guilty.”

Even though Alex Murdaugh insisted that he didn’t kill his family, the evidence against him was clinched by a cell phone video shot by his son.
Paul’s cell phone video of the kennel’s dogs was a crucial piece of evidence at Alex Murdaugh’s murder trial. Prosecutors claimed the video was filmed roughly five minutes before the murders took place.
Two witnesses who are friends of Paul’s testified that they heard Paul, Maggie, and Alex’s voices on the video. Alex Murdaugh has denied any involvement in the killings and claims he was not even at the kennels when they occurred.
I didn’t murder Maggie or Paul, either. I would never harm Maggie, and I would never harm Paul, ever, said Murdaugh.
The video from Paul Murdaugh’s cellphone proved the case against Alex Murdaugh beyond a reasonable doubt, despite the lack of circumstantial evidence the prosecution had.

Alex Murdaugh’s Method Of Murdering His Loved Ones.
Alex Murdaugh has insisted he was nowhere near the crime scene and had nothing to do with the murders.
On June 7, 2021, at the hunting lodge in Colleton County, South Carolina, Alex’s wife Maggie was shot multiple times with a Blackout rifle, while Alex himself was shot twice with a shotgun.
Matching shell casings for a blackout rifle were discovered nearby Maggie’s body, and they were also discovered elsewhere on the property. The missing gun was a rifle.
Lt. Britt Dove, of the State Law Enforcement Division, is an expert in retrieving and analyzing cellphone data, so she examined the call logs, videos, steps taken, GPS locations, etc., of Maggie, Paul, and Alex Murdaugh’s devices.
At 8:44:49 PM, Paul Murdaugh’s cellphone turned on for the last time with its camera active. Dove claimed the duration of the recorded video to be less than one minute.
Dove noted that at 8:48:59 p.m., Paul Murdaugh viewed the final text on his phone. In 36 seconds, he received another text that he ignored. Dove testified that 28 seconds after sending a text, Maggie Murdaugh read it.

The prosecution claims Alex murdered them to deflect attention from the many financial crimes he committed over the course of several years.
On June 7, 2021, Alex Murdaugh was confronted by the chief financial officer of his law firm about some missing money, according to testimony.

Mallory Beach drowned in a boating accident in 2019 that also claimed the life of his son Paul. On the Beaufort River in South Carolina on February 23, 2019, Paul Murdaugh captained a boat with five other passengers.
On board with him were Mallory Beach, Anthony Cook, Morgan Doughty, Miley Altman, and Connor Cook. Mallory Beach was lost at sea when the boat she was returning on collided with the Archer’s Creek Bridge near Parris Island at around 2 a.m.
on Sunday. Blood alcohol levels were later found to be quite high in Paul.

Alex Murdaugh’s Paternal And Paternal Grandparents
South Carolina’s prominent legal family had three members in the office of district attorney between 1920 and 2006. Murdaugh Country is what locals call the five-county region.
In Hampton, South Carolina, they established a law office dedicated to personal injury cases arising out of civil litigation.
In 1910, after earning his law degree from USC, Randolph Murdaugh Sr. opened a solo practice in Hampton. In 1920, he began practicing law in the 14th Judicial Circuit. His successor was Randolph “Buster” Murdaugh Jr.,
who served from 1940 until 1986. In 1986, his son Randolph Murdaugh III took over as attorney general. The three sons he and Elizabeth Alexander had were the youngest of his four children. His son Alex Murdaugh was among his offspring.
He earned his BA in 1990 from USC and his JD in 1994 from USC’s School of Law. Both Randolph IV and John Marvin were his other sons.
