Cane Has Barely Begun
Cane has been anticipating this since the pilot episode of Power Book II: Ghost. He acted lawfully and illegally in pursuit of his goal of becoming the head of the family drug gang. He was honest sometimes and dishonest other times, but it never benefited him… until now.
To carry out Noma’s orders, he, Tariq, Cane, and Brayden investigate the murder of Zeke and discover that Lorenzo was behind it.
Cane then uses this information to blackmail his father into relocating some of the product.
Cane has devised many elaborate schemes in an attempt to position himself to take over the family business, and while most of them have more or less failed up until this point, that hasn’t stopped him from trying again and again.
Finally, he has everyone where he wants them, and the next stage can begin. We don’t know how long this will last, but we have faith that Cane will make the most of it while it does.

A Greedy Attitude Is Necessary For Effie.
Effie is adjusting to the new dynamic between her boyfriend Tariq and her friends Brayden and Cane.
Although she doesn’t appear to be as materialistic as Brayden, she does appear to be more in needy than Tariq, as she will need all the drug money she can get in order to afford Stansfield University.
Effie’s serious demeanor is nothing new, so her eye-rolling at Tariq and Brayden’s talk of “blowing up” their plans and buying expensive cars with the proceeds is not surprising. For Effie, this is the closest thing to a come-uppance that she has ever experienced.
She lacks the support system of Tariq and Brayden and has no safety net in case of emergency. Tariq could turn to Monet for assistance, while Brayden has his incredibly wealthy family. Effie has the fewest available resources of the bunch.
So it’s kind of understandable that, behind Tariq and Brayden’s backs, she’d be thinking about re-launching Course Correct. You can also see it in the way she puts pressure on Brayden to hide the fact that they tried to murder Lauren but failed.
Ellie is caught between the two extremes of this episode’s central conflict, need and greed. For her, greed is a synonym for survival, and it shields her from pain that no other character will experience if things go wrong.
Given the current state of affairs after only two episodes, Effie needs to be greedy. It appears that the question is not if something bad will happen, but when.
