JoJo Siwa marked the first anniversary of her public coming out as a member of the LGBTQ community on Sunday with a moving post on Instagram.
I’ve never felt so loved as I have in the past year. She captioned a photo of herself from a year ago with, “A year ago today I posted this picture and shared with the world that I was gay.” The shirt she was wearing read, “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”
The 18-year-old Siwa said she is frequently asked if coming out was scary, to which she responds, “of course it was.”
It’s scary when there’s something unusual about you, but that’s what makes me, me. I had nothing to hide, so I told everyone,” she explained.
The dancer added that she was frequently asked if she was nervous about coming out to her young fanbase and telling kids about her sexuality, both of which she said she was.
She went on to say that she believes she was “put on this earth to be a role model for kids,” and that she plans to continue spreading the message that “loving everyone for who they are no matter what”
The ex-“Dance Moms” star then thanked her fans for their support over the previous year and reminded them that they should be free to love whoever they like.

In January of 2021, the “Boomerang singer” publicly acknowledged their LGBTQ identity. In an Instagram post from February 2021, she and her first girlfriend Kylie Prew celebrated their one-month anniversary.
