The 21-year-old actor, who is the first Latino to portray the lead in a DC superhero picture, is fantastic as the young hero who gets his powers from an extraterrestrial scarab that attaches itself to him.

Locations used during filming included Atlanta, Georgia, El Paso, Texas, and Puerto Rico. In late June, Susan Sarandon posted a photo from the set in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Instagram, confirming that she had wrapped production on her role as the film’s antagonist.

Blue Beetle features a new set of characters for fans to get to know, despite taking place in the DCEU. It seems to promise a Latino superhero in the same manner as films like Shang-Chi and Black Panther did for their respective Asian and African-American audiences.

Whether or if Victoria Kord is like Ted Kord from the comics, she will have access to the mysterious technology. The Wrap reports that unlike Ted Kord, who was the second Blue Beetle and occasionally a member of the Justice League, the new Victoria Kord will be a villain.
The cast suggests that the film will follow a formula in which the villainous Kord corporation creates the technology and gives it to the protagonist, who subsequently exploits it.
In the comics, Jaime Reyes tracks down the scarab when it is hurled to his hometown of El Paso, Texas by the bursting Rock of Eternity. As this is the place where the wizard Shazam was born, one has to wonder if there will be any ties between Blue Beetle and the recently released Black Adam and Shazam flicks.
As Jaime discovers the scarab, it attaches itself to his spine while he sleeps. Yet, there will probably be changes between the film and the comic book. If we can conclude anything about the cast from the cast list, we know that Victoria Kord is aware of the scarab and has sent the powerful Carapax to collect it.
Jaime will need to figure out how to work with the scarab if he wants to keep his mind and body secure from the strange technology.
