Last Sunday, Darrion Williams turned sixteen.
His stepmother reported that he was looking forward to the upcoming weekend festivities. There will not be a birthday party this Saturday as had been planned.
They are having a hard time accepting that their beloved 16-year-old son, Williams, is no longer with them.
They abducted a gifted child. This is what the victim’s stepmother, Audrey Welch-Williams, stated about the crime. When I told him I loved him, he comforted me by saying, “I love you too.” That was the last time I heard from him, and I was shocked.
According to the Chicago Police Department, Williams was shot at around 11 p.m. on Friday as he walked along the sidewalk in the 2100 block of West Randolph Street. The suspect was last seen wearing black clothing. After being transferred to Stroger hospital, Williams passed away soon after.
There were many influential personalities and role models throughout his life. He didn’t quite go off the rails. Unfortunately, he was in the wrong location at the wrong moment,” Welch-Williams explained.
His stepmother described him as a sweet, shy, and sometimes playful child. Williams excelled in two other sports while attending high school in the Near West Side, as well: football and basketball.
Darrion, who went by the nickname “Cheese” because of his charming grin, attended Crane Medical Prep High School, where his family boasted that he was a budding star on the football and basketball teams.
Audrey Welch-Williams, Darrion’s step-mother, laments that the family will never know “what would have been if he had grown up” because they will never get to see Darrion smile. When something precious is taken from you, you can never get it back.
Police of Chicago On Darrion’s Death
Near the intersection of North Hoyne Avenue and West Randolph Street in Chicago’s Near West Side, police said Darrion was shot in the chest. The family has told that Darrion was sleeping at a friend’s house the night he was murdered, but this news has left them with more questions than answers.
To quote Welch-Williams: “That’s the only thing that we can anticipate, is that the person be apprehended and prosecuted to the highest degree of what he’s done.” As a result, I’d appreciate it if everyone could just pray for the family and hold out hope that justice will be served soon.
No one has been arrested in connection with the death investigation of Darrion.

Even though he was only a sophomore, he played an important role on both of the varsity squads.
Since “he was totally varsity, and he did both sports and he did them well,” Welch-Williams said, “we had anticipations for him going to prom, and maybe probably even getting drafted from somewhere.”
As the happy times they once enjoyed faded into the past, so did their hopes.
I want everyone to know what a stunning child he was. Welch-Williams chimed in, “He didn’t deserve what happened to him.
As of this writing, no suspects have been taken into custody, according to Chicago police.

Williams’ stepmother claimed that he was given the nickname “Cheese” because his grin “was like the way a rat smiled when he was looking at cheese.”
According to his stepmother, who claims she was shot when 27 weeks pregnant in 2016, gun violence has been a problem in his family in the past.
Williams acknowledged, “We’ve been through a lot. A good kid, [Darrion] was. He exhibited some timidity and shyness. “He wasn’t a yeller or a brawler.”
On Sunday, Williams’s loved ones will gather at the Crane football pitch to hold a candlelight vigil.
The Chicago Public Schools issued the following statement: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of another young life and we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community members impacted by this tragedy.”
