Gianno Caldwell slams election of progressive mayor as crime rises: 'What the hell were you thinking Chicago?'

After Chicago’s worst day in 60 years, Fox News contributor Gianno Caldwell claims the city’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, is an elite who is leaving locals unsafe.

Brandon Johnson, a progressive candidate, defeated Paul Vallas, the former CEO of Chicago Public Schools, in Tuesday’s mayoral election. However, numerous critics have said that Johnson’s policies are worse than those of the popular Lori Lightfoot.

Gianno Caldwell of Fox News, whose teenage brother Christian was murdered in Chicago last year, spoke out against Johnson’s victory, calling it “horrific” for Chicagoans.

To him, he said on Wednesday’s “Your World,” “[This] was the signing of thousands of death certificates of people who don’t have to die because of the policies of which he’s pushed for.

The police department, or police union, rather, has come out against this candidate, saying, “This is a guy who has defunded the police, who has advocate d for that, who has fastened rioters and looters, who has no idea about open safety, and whose voting support would cause many law enforcement admiral to resign.”

On the latest episode of “Your World,” political analyst Gianno Caldwell of Fox News discusses the impact that Brandon Johnson’s progressive ideas could have on the city’s rising crime rate following Johnson’s election as mayor.

Fox News’ Gianno Caldwell discusses the progressive candidate Brandon Johnson’s election in Chicago and the city’s ongoing crime epidemic on the programme “Your World.”

Some detractors of progressive candidate Brandon Johnson, who was elected mayor of Chicago on Tuesday after defeating former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas, claim that Johnson’s policies are worse than those of outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Speaking out about Johnson’s victory, Fox News’ Gianno Caldwell, whose young brother Christian was murdered in Chicago last year, called it “horrific” for the city’s citizens. To him, he said on Wednesday’s “Your World,” “[This] was the signing of thousands of death certificates of people who don’t have to die because of the policies of which he’s pushed for.

“Multiple police officers would resign if he were elected, according to the police department and the police union, since “this is a guy who has defunded the police, who has advocated for that, who has defended rioters and looters, who has not thought about public safety.”

Johnson’s Top Priorities

Johnson's Top Priorities

According to his campaign website, Johnson places a high priority on a wide variety of issues, including “public safety and police reform,” “environmental justice,” “gender equity,” and “education.”

In addition to advocating for increased city investment on mental health care, schools, and affordable housing to address the fundamental causes of crime, he has pledged to promote 200 detectives from rank-and-file cops to assist ease caseloads.

He has also advocated for the use of nonmilitary personnel like social workers and EMTs to answer 911 calls in place of police officers.

The Chicago Police Department reports that from January through April 2, 2019, the city’s crime rate rose by 42% annually. Thefts of motor vehicles are up 133%, and robberies are up 15%. However, homicide rates have dropped by 15% in that time.

Caldwell claims his dead sibling is “kicking in his grave” because of Brandon Johnson’s victory.

I mean, seriously, Chicago, what were you thinking? I can’t figure it out. Historically, crime has been concentrated on the city’s South and West sides, but now it can be found all around the city. But downtown, he lamented to anchor Neil Cavuto, “our businesses have left.”

Political Evaluation

Political Evaluation

You mention Citadel and a few other companies whose departures can be attributed to rising crime rates. When Brandon Johnson becomes president and starts enforcing his horrifyingly horrifying approach towards crime, I have no doubt there will be many more.

When asked if Johnson could surprise him with tough-on-crime legislation, the political analyst did not have high hopes.

I don’t think there’s much of a chance now that he’s praising Kim Foxx. I may hope and pray all I want, but the fact is that he campaigned as a progressive. Many people, including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, backed him.

And Caldwell predicted, “he is a person who will be soft on crime.” This is what we’ve got, Neil. And the only thing that can stop him from enforcing his plan is if new people rise to power.
