Cricket aficionados may not yet recognize the name Singapore. In terms of becoming a serious contender in international cricket, it is still light years behind. This hasn’t stopped national T20 teams from drafting and signing players from that nation, either.
The Bangalore squad set the standard by signing Tim David, a hitter from Singapore with little to no name recognition, to play in the 2021, Indian T20 League’s second season. On September 24th, he became the first player from his nation to compete in the competition.
In the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League auction, the Mumbai team followed suit by engaging in a bidding battle with the Kolkata squad for the assistance of the Singapore all-rounder.
After an opening bid of 40 lakhs, David was eventually purchased for an astounding 8.25 crores. There may have been a maximum of six competing teams.
