The much-anticipated meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden is set to take place next month during the G7 summit in the United Kingdom. The announcement was made by Jake Sullivan, national security advisor of the United States, on Sunday.

Sullivan said that President Biden is looking forward to meeting with PM Modi as part of his participation in the G7 summit, which will be held from 11th to 13th June. This will be their first face-to-face meeting since President Biden assumed office in January this year.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The upcoming meeting between the two leaders is expected to further strengthen the rapidly growing partnership between India and United States. During the virtual Quad summit in March, PM Modi and President Biden had discussed various issues including climate change, COVID-19 response, and Indo-Pacific region.

Both leaders have also expressed their commitment towards working together on critical global challenges such as vaccine production, cyber security, and defence cooperation. The US has also extended its support to India during the current devastating second wave of COVID-19 pandemic by providing necessary medical supplies and raw materials for vaccine production.

Long-standing Friendship

The meeting between PM Modi and President Biden is a testament to the long-standing friendship between India and United States. In his statement, Sullivan highlighted the shared values of democracy, pluralism, and commitment to a rules-based international order that form the basis of this partnership.

Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the upcoming summit will provide an opportunity for both leaders to review bilateral ties and chart out a course for future collaborations in areas such as trade, investment, defence, energy, and technology.

Key Issues on Agenda

Apart from COVID-19 response and global challenges, issues like climate change, economic recovery, and trade and investment are likely to be on the agenda during the meeting. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional security issues, especially the situation in Afghanistan following US troop withdrawal.

This meeting between PM Modi and President Biden holds great significance as it comes at a time when India is battling with a deadly second wave of COVID-19. The support extended by the US during this crisis has further strengthened the bond between the two nations.

The G7 summit will provide an opportunity for both leaders to reiterate their commitment towards working together towards a better future for their people and the world. As democracies with diverse populations, India and the US share a common goal of promoting peace, prosperity, and security in the region and beyond.

meeting between PM Modi and President Biden is expected to further solidify this partnership and pave the way for greater collaboration in the years to come.
